FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Former pro football player Pat Tillman was "probably" killed by friendly fire as he led his team of Army Rangers up a hill during a firefight in Afghanistan last month, the U.S. Army said today. Tillman walked away from a $3.6 million NFL contract to join the Army after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

At Least Six Die in Attack in Saudi City, at Least One American Among Those Killed
DAMMAM, Saudi Arabia - Saudi security forces stormed an expatriate residential complex today seeking gunmen who had taken hostages after a shooting rampage on two compounds housing oil company offices, killing at least six people - including a 10-year- old boy. At least one American and two other Westerners were among those killed in the second deadly attack on oil industry targets in the Saudi kingdom this month. There were reports the death toll could be as high as 15.
KUFA, Iraq - U.S. soldiers and fighters loyal to a radical Shiite cleric exchanged gunfire here today, raising new fears about whether a plan to end a seven-week standoff here will hold. Explosions could be heard near Kufa's main mosque, where members of Muqtada al-Sadr's militia had taken up positions. Militia members accused U.S. troops of provoking the gunfight by approaching the city center. Coalition officials were not available for comment.
Two Men Charged with Killing Three Children in Baltimore
BALTIMORE - Two Mexican immigrants who joined relatives grieving for three murdered children were arrested at the crime scene and charged with the killings, police said. Baltimore police said Friday they still did not have a motive for the slayings. But among the theories being explored was revenge over an unpaid debt for transportation into the United States as undocumented immigrants.

'Lone Bugler' Pays Last Tribute to Veterans , N.J. Man Will Play More Than 20 Times On Memorial Day
HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. - For retired Army 1st Sgt. Richard Pinter, playing taps at military funerals is his way of helping the nation give its final salute to veterans. After 38 years of playing taps, the man known as "The Lone Bugler" is all too aware that there are service members who never received the recognition - and the thought leaves him choking back tears.

Supreme Court Sets Schedule for Pension Bond Challenge
The state Supreme Court will hear arguments Sept. 1 over Gov. Bob Wise's plan to erase debts in three state pension plans with $3.9 billion in bonds. State Treasurer John Perdue and state Auditor Glen Gainer III must file written briefs by June 14 supporting their constitutional challenge of Wise's proposal. Lawyers for Wise must file theirs by July 14, while replies from either side are due July 29.
Another Round of Storms Hits W.Va., All Power Expected to Be Restored After Widespread Outages
Everyone who lost power during this week's storms is expected to have it restored by tonight, power company officials said. American Electric Power and Allegheny Power both reported widespread outages caused by high winds that accompanied storms that hit West Virginia this week, including a powerful storm Thursday night.
