Police Hope to Curb Halloween Hijinks
Areas of Kanawha County usually hit hard by pranksters around Halloween will see an increased number of law enforcement officers patrolling the streets this year. Starting Friday, Kanawha County Sheriff's deputies will add patrols in marked and unmarked cruisers and even on foot all over the county, especially in the Sissonville area and the eastern part of the county, Lt. N.C. Father Says Police Toy Utters Curse Word
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. - A father is asking Toys "R" Us Inc. to take a police toy set off the shelves because he says the one given to his 6-year-old son utters a curse word. The toy set, named the "Elite Operations Role Play Set: Police," includes a nightstick and a utility belt. A recorded message that includes what sounds like a curse word plays when the nightstick is removed from the belt.
Another Accuses Priest in Foley Flap
MIAMI - Another former altar boy says he was sexually abused in the 1970s by the same retired Catholic priest who acknowledged fondling former Rep. Mark Foley when Foley was a teenager, the man's attorney said. Wednesday's new allegations against the Rev. Anthony Mercieca were made by a man who lived in North Miami and was an altar boy at St. James Catholic Church, where Mercieca worked, attorney Jeffrey Herman said.

Bush signs bill for new fencing along border WASHINGTON - President Bush signed a bill today authorizing 700 miles of new fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border, hoping to give Republican candidates a pre-election platform for asserting they're tough on illegal immigration.
NEWARK, N.J. - The New Jersey Supreme Court left the door ajar for the approval of same-sex marriage , ruling that gay couples are entitled to rights no different from those of heterosexual couples. The court gave state legislators 180 days to craft a bill offering gay couples the same rights as heterosexuals, though it appeared to leave open a choice between same-sex marriage and civil unions.
