NEW ORLEANS - South American fire ants are becoming an increasing danger for nursing home residents, as the aggressive non-native pests spread throughout the country and the U.S. population ages, according to University of Mississippi researchers.
Scientists have documented at least six attacks in nursing homes and as many other attacks in private residences, apartments and hotels over the last decade, said Robin Rockhold, a professor of toxicology and pharmacology at the University of Mississippi Medical School.See the full content of this document
