The state Economic Development Authority has given an Illinois company preliminary approval for a $5 million loan to help finance construction of a plant in Institute that will make biodiesel fuel.

Kanawha Biodiesel, a subsidiary of Emerald Biofuels of Golf, Ill., received preliminary approval for a 10-year, low-interest loan. The company announced last March that it intended to build a $15 million biodiesel plant at the Bayer CropScience Manufacturing Industrial Park in Institute.
