Though he hasn't said he'll run next year for a record ninth term, Sen. Robert Byrd has so far raised three times as much campaign cash as his announced and potential challengers combined, according to the latest Federal Election Commission filings.

The 87-year-old Democrat attracted $582,578 between April 1 and June 30, swelling his campaign fund to $1.7 million.
