More than half a century later, Navy veteran Bill Lykens got his World War II medals.

The 80-year-old Cabin Creek native, who now lives in Birmingham, Ala., served in the Pacific during the war, spending much of his time helping to ferry soldiers for the island-hopping campaigns.
