BLENNERHASSETT Island outside of Parkersburg is a respite from the hectic pace of the modern world. Visitors can enjoy the tranquility that first attracted Harman Blennerhassett to the isle in 1798.

Unfortunately, too much of West Virginia remains stuck in the 18th century. The state suffers from a shortage of good roads. The dream of an east-west route through the state predates Blennerhassett's habitation of his island in the Ohio River.
