State Plans Detailed Broadband Map: ; Grant Will Help Pay for Project, Which Should Be Completed in 2011

The state expects to post an interactive map on the Internet before October 2011 that provides detailed information about broadband availability in West Virginia, said state Commerce Secretary Kelley Goes.

The mapping project will be financed with a $1.4 million federal grant announced Oct. 23 by Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., and the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration. The state will use some components of its geospatial data infrastructure as an in-kind contribution valued at $351,169, Goes said.
