Summary
I love getting fan mail, even when its not so complimentary. It lets me know people are reading and, better yet, is often good for a laugh or two. Take this e-mail from Fonzie, for instance. Sir, you need to know and should know that just because you like the taste of something doesnt mean everyone else likes what you like. You really arent qualified to give out professional food advice. You are a novice. I do like reading your articles when you say something nice about the place and their food, but who are you to say anything bad about a place who has put up there hard earnings to open up a business? Remember: IF YOU CANT SAY SOMETHING GOOD, DONT SAY ANYTHING AT ALL. Ive been hanging on to Fonzies e-mail for some time, so I honestly cant remember what restaurant I must have trashed in his eyes. But Im guessing it was owned by someone he knew. So Fonzie doesnt think Im cool, and Id venture a guess that Doug from Australia feels the same way. Yes, Australia. I have a reader from Down Under. I do understand the correct etiquette of eating, and one cannot dine in the morning, he wrote, taking umbrage to my wording in a recent column. The word dine applies to dinner, which is normally taken in the evening. But as you are American, I have already forgiven you. Aw shucks, mate, thanks.
