Massey Energy Co. has accused federal mining regulators of barring the company from participating in interviews with witnesses in the investigation of a fatal mine fire in January.

Massey claimed in a statement released Monday that the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration is hampering the company's own investigation of the fire at its Aracoma Coal Alma No. 1 mine. Two miners died in the Jan. 19 fire. Massey said the agency has barred its subsidiary, mine operator Aracoma Coal Co., from witness interviews.
