Former state Supreme Court Justice Tom Miller was a workhorse whose tenure helped make West Virginia law more relevant, ex- colleagues said.

Miller, who died Tuesday at his Wheeling home at age 79, served on the court from 1977 to 1994 and was chief justice in 1982, 1985- 86, and 1991. A statement from Kepner Funeral Home in Wheeling did not give a cause of death.
