MORGANTOWN - Separate all-terrain vehicle accidents over the weekend brought the number of ATV fatalities in West Virginia to 18 this year and officials fear the death toll will surpass last year's if rising gasoline prices force residents to rely more on the machines.

Last year, a record 40 people were killed in ATV accidents, said Dr. Jim Helmkamp with West Virginia University's Injury Control Research Center.
