Glenna Paxton Belcher

Glenna Paxton Belcher, 88, a lifelong resident of Shrewsbury, passed away on Sept. 2, 2008, at her residence under the loving care of her family and Hospice.

She was born Oct. 19, 1919, in Shrewsbury and was the daughter of the late Cephus S. and Thursie Sampson Paxton and the widow of the late Harold Willard Belcher. Glenna was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was a Protestant by faith, attended the Shrewsbury Church of God in her younger years and supported other local churches in the community.

Glenna was a homemaker and enjoyed needlework, embroidering and crocheting gifts for others. She and her late husband enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing.

She is survived by one son, Kenneth R. (Patsy) Belcher of Vienna; three daughters, Ida Mae Bagley of Bethel, Maine, Janice L. (Henry "Jack") Dye of Cross Lanes and Ruth Ann (Gerald) Simmons of Washington; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and nine great- great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews; and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Glenna was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Clarence and Wesley Paxton; six sisters, Ida Mae Settle, Virgie Seabolt, Sally Siders, Icie Estep, Maxine Scaggs and Georgia Paxton; and one son-in-law, Robert L. Bagley.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 6, at Cooke Funeral Home, Cedar Grove, with the Rev. Jack Long officiating.

Burial will be at Montgomery Memorial Park, London.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cooke Funeral Home, Cedar Grove.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to HospiceCare, 1143 Dunbar Ave., Dunbar, WV 25064.

The family extends special thanks to Dr. Mely Lim, Hospice, friends and caregivers, Paul and Anna Stover.
