Charles Eugene Carte, 76, of South Charleston passed away on February 22, 2010, at Hubbard Hospice House. He had been living at Dunbar Care and Rehabilitation and Sweetbriar since leaving his South Charleston home.

He was a member of Southridge Church. He retired from the state of West Virginia as a mail carrier and was formerly employed by Goodwill Industries.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orlan and Faye Carte; and his niece, Jeanne Carte Duhon.

He is survived by his brother, Glen (Marilyn) Carte; and sister, Eleanor Byrnes, both of Charleston; niece, Mollie (Bob) Mayfield of Atlanta, Ga.; and nephews, Glenn, Jr., Allen (Janie), John (Tracy) Carte of Charleston and Robert (Liz) Posey of Andrews, Texas. He also left behind many friends and other relatives who meant so much to him.

A service to honor the life of Charles Eugene Carte will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 27, at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, with the Rev. Robert Underwood officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes, following the service.

Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

They were preceded in their death by their sister, Cedrica Diona Daniel.
