Mildred V. Bailey, 88, of Newberne Community, Gilmer County, departed this life Tuesday evening, June 20, 2006, at her residence following an extended illness.

Obituaries

She was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Gilmer County and was a daughter of the late Thurman C. and Georgia Woodford Kemper.

Mrs. Bailey was a homemaker, a 1936 graduate of Tanner High School, a former member of the Gilmer County Farm Bureau and a member of Newberne United Methodist Church and Methodist Women of the Church.

On May 25, 1939, she was united in marriage to Milton Bailey who survived at their Newberne home.

Surviving is one son, Donald "Don" Bailey and wife, Linda, of Normantown. Two grandchildren survive: Debbie Allen and husband, Randy, of Normantown and Todd Bailey and friend, Beckey Whitman, of Normantown. Three great-grandchildren survive: Joshua, Jessica and Jeremiah Allen, all of Normantown. Also surviving are her caregivers, Donna and Anne Kresko.

Mildred was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one sister, Mary McHenry, and three brothers, Max, Mede and Morley Kemper.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24, at Ellyson Mortuary, Glenville, with the Rev. Bill Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Stalnaker Cemetery, Glenville.

Ellyson Mortuary Inc. is assisting the family of Mildred V. Bailey with arrangements.
