John Willard "Pete" Anderson, 93, of Elkview passed away on Friday, February 5, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital, Charleston, after a brief illness.
Born in Hundred, Wetzel County, he was the son of the late Fred and Edna B. Hunt Anderson.He was a graduate of Hundred High School and Fairmont State Teachers College and received a master's degree in English from West Virginia University. Pete was an educator in Wetzel, Kanawha and Jackson county schools. For about 10 years, he was director of school plant planning for the West Virginia Department of Education.As a building contractor, Pete constructed over 30 homes in the Elkview area. He was a WWII Navy veteran.Pete was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and was with the Elkview congregation since 1947, where he was an elder for 25 years.Pete enjoyed woodworking, rebuilding metal lathes, flea marketing, and spending time with his family and friends.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry and Harley Anderson; and a sister, Mary Knowlton.Surviving: his loving wife of 72 years, Margery Rose Anderson; daughter, Janice Kay Mester and husband, George, of Nashville, Tenn.; brother, Herman Anderson and wife, Olive, of Georgia; sister- in-law, Sue Rose of Heaters; grandchildren, Martha Mester Cooper and husband, Jason, and Timothy Mester and wife, Diane; great- grandchild, Ryan Joshua Cooper; and several nieces and nephews.Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 9, at the Hafer Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Steve Fox officiating.
