The occupancy rate in Charleston's premier downtown office towers has declined by 10 percent since the national recession took hold more than a year ago.

"The market has dropped from 97 percent occupancy, which is in effect full capacity, to 87 percent," said Howard Swint, associate broker with West Virginia Commercial Limited Liability Co.
