The Higher Education Policy Commission paid a former vice chancellor more than $171,000 in salary and benefits for a one-year teaching sabbatical at West Virginia University, although no one at the commission can find a contract, legislators were told.

The commission reimbursed the salary and benefits paid to Dr. Donald Weston for the year he taught at the Charleston division of the WVU School of Medicine after he resigned as vice chancellor on June 30, 2001. He retired June 30, 2002.
