Offshore Earthquake Rattles Northern Japan

TOKYO - A moderate offshore earthquake rattled northeastern Japan today, authorities said, but no damage or injuries were reported.

The earthquake registered a preliminary magnitude of 5.4 and was centered 43 miles beneath the seabed off the coast of northeastern Fukushma prefecture (state), the Meteorological Agency said.
