About 3,200 Appalachian Power customers in eastern Kanawha County lost power when a tree broke a 46-kilovolt transmission line.

The break, which occurred at about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, resulted in the cancellation of afternoon and evening classes at West Virginia University Institute of Technology and the WVU-Tech Community & Technical College, which share the campus at Montgomery.
