West Virginia must invest more in quality early child care and development to help improve the chances for an economically successful future work force, state lawmakers, advocates and researchers say.

"It has been proven by studies nationally and locally that the best investment of dollars you can make from a public standpoint is in early care and education," Senate Education Committee Chairman Robert Plymale, D-Wayne, said recently.
