CINCINNATI Steve Slaton swears he and Pat White have never lined up side by side and made it a point to find out once and for all who has the better speed. Thats a shame, too, because right about now there are several West Virginia opponents who see both of them as nothing but blurs. Cincinnati is the latest, the Bearcats having spent more time watching West Virginias redshirt freshman quarterback, White, and true freshman tailback, Slaton, from the back and not the front. White and Slaton combined for 240 yards rushing, Slaton scored four touchdowns and White threw a scoring pass Wednesday night as the Mountaineers demolished outmanned Cincinnati 38-0 at Nippert Stadium. The win, West Virginias fourth in a row, improved the No. 16 Mountaineers to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in the Big East and kept them on track for the league title and an automatic Bowl Championship Series berth. West Virginia is off until a Thanksgiving night home game with Pitt, then the season finale Dec. 3 at South Florida. It was WVUs first shutout win since a 40-0 pasting of Rutgers in 2002. White finished with 111 yards rushing on just eight carries to go along with an even 100 yards on 7-of-12 passing. He threw a third-quarter touchdown pass to Darius Reynaud and twice in the first half hit Brandon Myles for big gains to set up touchdowns.
