Rescue groups worried that budget cuts would lead to the gassing of nearly 100 animals at a Mason County shelter pulled off an interstate relocation effort over the weekend, moving nearly all of them to safety.
Last week, the county-run shelter had 80 dogs and 50 cats, most of which were to be removed - either by adoption, rescue or euthanasia - within 14 days. By Monday afternoon, only 10 dogs and 12 cats remained, and the director who had quit in frustration was back on the job.See the full content of this document
