Self-Insured Companies Upset with Tax Proposal

Summary


A representative of companies that process and pay their own injured workers' claims complained about a plan to assess them separate charges to help cut the deficit in the state's Workers' Compensation Fund.

"I want to express how dismayed we are that (next year's budget) includes a large administrative tax on self-insureds," said lawyer Henry Bowen, who also serves as executive secretary of the West Virginia Self-Insureds Association.
