IN 1900, a hurricane killed thousands of people and pretty much destroyed downtown Houston, the New Scientist magazine reported. The death toll from this weekend's Hurricane Ike was far below that, but the damage could be as much as $16 billion.
Nearly 4 million people lost their electric power for the weekend at minimum. By Monday, that figures was down to "only" 3 million people, and it may be a month before every customer has power.See the full content of this document
