The settlement of a challenge over rising rail prices for transporting coal through Central Appalachia leaves questions about how utilities should pay for steep rate hikes unanswered.
Norfolk Southern Corp. last week announced confidential agreements with subsidiaries of Duke Energy Corp. and Progress Energy Inc. in their federal Surface Transportation Board rate case. The Norfolk, Va.-based railroad company said the settlement could boost this quarter's income by $24 million, or 6 cents per share.See the full content of this document
