Summary

AT A GLANCE The state Office of Emergency Services has issued a list of suggestions for flood victims so they may be prepared to apply for federal disaster assistance. Residents who may need help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency should: * Notify your county emergency services director about storm and flood damage. Inform the director if you need cleaning supplies or drinking water. Kanawha County residents may call Bill White at 357-0111. * Photograph the damage and label the pictures on the back. * Begin the cleanup process immediately. You do not have to wait for FEMA to see the damage. * Notify your homeowners insurance representative about the damage, even if you do not have flood insurance. Individuals without flood insurance will need documentation that damages will not be covered by the homeowners insurance policy. A copy of the homeowners insurance policy or a letter from the insurance company stating the damage will not be covered is acceptable documentation. * Make a list of damaged or destroyed items for each room. * Notify your automobile insurance representative if your vehicle was destroyed or damaged. If you have liability insurance that will cover the damage, you will need documentation of that fact. A copy of the automobile insurance policy or a letter from the insurance company stating the damage is not covered will be acceptable documentation.
