Smart Money: ; Purchasing Life Insurance a Good Move for Couples

Summary

DEAR BRUCE: Please help settle a debate on life insurance. My wife and I are in our late 30s, work, and don't smoke. My wife is salaried for a large consulting firm and gets paid fairly well. I am self-employed and in any given year my pay can vary tremendously. We have no children. And - right or wrong - we have no life insurance. My wife thinks this is wrong and that we should buy some sort of term insurance. I think we're OK, since we have no children, no plans for children (if I get my way, at least) and I think we're invincible. What do you think? And, if you agree with my wife how do you suggest we go about purchasing insurance? Do we need to buy two separate policies? How does this work?
