Red Cross chapters across West Virginia hope to benefit from a new law that will allow 16-year-olds to give blood as long as they have parental consent.

Currently in West Virginia, someone who is 17 or older can give blood without the permission of a parent or guardian. Twenty states, plus Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, now allow 16-year- olds to donate blood with parental consent.
