My Turn: ; Real Mother's Day Gifts Come Unexpectedly

Summary


We have never had a United States president who could cook meals, clean house, pay bills, pack lunches, make appointments, do the laundry, settle fights, lead meetings, improve young minds, balance checkbooks, live within a budget, cheer the home team, help with homework, bathe children, read goodnight stories, serve as chauffeur, make up stories (oops, we have had leaders who have done this) and then for a school play make costumes out of creativity and determination. A good mother can accomplish all these feats and more, for she is a true wonder woman.

In a few days, we once again will celebrate Mother's Day by honoring mothers. When they became mothers, they were transformed into humans who for the first time understood the real meaning of unselfish love, for good mothers place their children's wellbeing and success above their own.
