Kanawha County phone customers may soon be paying higher fees to support their county 911 service.

The Metro 911 board is looking into a $1 million overhaul of the county's 12-year-old computer-assisted dispatch system. But because the 911 system's annual $6.5 million budget is dependent almost wholly on monthly phone fees, officials say that upgrade can't take place without an increase in those fees.
