A state veterans' advocate told lawmakers Monday that the Legislature should cut in half the amount of time it takes members of the National Guard and Air Reserve to qualify for a free college education.

Right now, guardsmen and reservists who are deployed on active duty for three years are eligible to receive free in-state tuition at state-run schools.
