A dozen years ago, the Republican Party held only one of the 34 seats in the state Senate. Slowly, the party has climbed out of the grave. Republicans now hold 13 Senate seats.

With success, there have been problems. The state headquarters amassed a debt of around $200,000, leading to calls for the resignation of Kris Warner as state chairman. He resigned, and on Saturday, Robin Capehart was elected to take over as chairman.
