IT'S almost inevitable that some officials elected at the local level will turn out not to be good public servants. Not everyone who seeks public office turns out to have had public service in mind.

When a person empowered by voters turns out to be a threat to the public, citizens, county prosecutors, county commissions, city councils and the state auditor may petition the courts to remove that official from office.
