Coal Truck Weights Discussed: ; Companies Paying for Bridge Repairs, Official Testifies

Coal trucks are becoming lighter and coal companies are paying for some bridge repairs in efforts to comply with a law raising truck weight limits in coalfield counties that is now being enforced, a Public Service Commission advisory committee learned.

The PSC began enforcing coal truck weight limits on June 1, Charles "Buddy" Covert, a staff attorney, told the Commercial Motor Vehicle Weight and Safety Enforcement Advisory Committee.
