WHEELING - For an estimated $9,000, the city of Wheeling may purchase portable scales to begin weighing trucks traveling through the city in an effort to maintain public safety and curb wear and tear on the streets.

During a Public Safety Committee meeting Monday afternoon, Police Chief Robert Matheny, with backing from the Ohio County Sheriff's Department and West Virginia State Police, suggested the purchase of portable scales as a way of enforcing the weight restrictions citywide.
