ONLY one team in the history of West Virginia University sports has won a national championship - the WVU rifle team. In 52 years, it won a remarkable 13 national championships.

But six years ago, the WVU athletic department decided to disband the team, citing Title IX compliance issues and the cost - $163,000 a year - of subsidizing a team that doesn't draw big crowds.
